The ROUNDS Fabric, Explained: What Four-Way Stretch Actually Means
ROUNDS Product Team·May 18, 2026· 5 min read

"Four-way stretch" gets thrown around a lot in activewear marketing, so let's be specific about what it means in a ROUNDS piece — and why it matters when you're reaching, bending, and crouching bedside for twelve hours straight.
Two-way vs. four-way
Two-way stretch fabric moves in one direction — usually side to side. Four-way stretch moves both horizontally and vertically, which means the fabric flexes with you whether you're lunging to catch a falling chart or squatting to check an IV line low on the bed frame.
Why it's not just about comfort
- Recovery — the fabric snaps back to shape instead of bagging out at the knees by lunch.
- Range of motion — nothing pulls tight across the shoulders or seat during a full reach.
- Durability — stretch fibers distribute stress instead of concentrating it at seams, so pieces last through more washes.
We also run our fabric through moisture-wicking and antimicrobial treatments, because stretch alone doesn't solve for a warm unit or a double shift. The goal is a piece that performs the same at hour one as it does at hour twelve.
